Our Staff

CG’s Gymnastics is blessed to have such a qualified staff. Staff is selected by their knowledge of the sport, attitude, experience, ability to teach and spot, and their love of children. Our staff is fortunate to have continuing education, various levels of gymnastics and other certifications, national level competitors and judges, certified teachers, first aid and CPR staff that are always on hand. Education is ongoing. many of us teach clinics and workshops at the local, National, and International level.

   Coach James was born in New Jersey but moved around during his childhood to Michigan and Ohio, before he landed in Baton Rouge.  He is a former C.G.'s competitive gymnast and graduated from Episcopal High School.  He then began coaching and worked his way through school, graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University.  Coach James teaches Tumbling, Recreational Gymnastics, and our Boys' Competitive Team.

   In 2013 he and Christy purchased the business from owner Caesar Garcia after being a part of C.G’s Gymnastics for 14 years.  It is his goal to carry on Coach Garcia’s legacy by sticking to the fundamental values that made his business a positive influence in children’s lives.  He is also the State Director of Louisiana Men’s Gymnastics.

   James and Christy have been together since 2009 and married in July 2015.

Christy Hancock


     Christy is the voice/face you usually are in contact with in the Office.  She not only handles the office but also a large portion of the day to day organization and running of the gym.
     She is very familiar with the gym and the gymnastics world.  She started gymnastics when she was 1 year old and began Acrobatic Gymnastics (formerly named Sports Acrobatics) a few years later.  By the time she was twelve she was competing on the highest level of Acro, Elite, and had competed at Nationals four times.
     Christy is from the Baton Rouge area and went to Episcopal High School where she was a soccer player, powerlifter, and an officer in NJROTC.  She went on to graduate from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in 2006 with a B.A. in English and Psychology and a minor in Political Science: Legal Studies.  She was one of 33 women in a class of 397 graduates and her class started with 617 “knobs” (freshmen) in 2002.  After college, she went to law school at Ole Miss and graduated in 2009 with a J.D.  She was the first in the country to graduate with a Criminal Law Certificate and a Remote Sensing, Air & Space Law Certificate.
     Christy also is an extensive traveler and has been to over 30 countries and studied abroad twice at Cambridge University in England.  She is also an animal lover and enjoys horseback riding, painting, drawing, and reading.  Christy and Coach James have been together since 2009 and married July 2015.

Girls' Team Department Leader

  Coach Daniel was born in Hawaii but has lived all over the world as part of a military family.  He has over 15 years of coaching and gym management experience and has worked as a gymnastics coach at various gyms across the country including Maryland, Kentucky, Ohio, and Las Vegas.

  Coach Daniel has been coaching women's gymnastics since 2001, and is known for building strong, successful competitive teams and athletes.  He holds a current Professional membership and background check with USA Gymnastics as well as a USAG Safety Certification, Meet Director, and Skills Evaluator certifications, and a Red Cross CRP and First Aid certification.  Coach Daniel is a Master Clinician and has coached multiple state clinics across the mid-west and east coast. He has coached numerous all-around state champions as well as several regional winners and 9 & 10 JO  National competitors. 

  Coach Daniel joined the C.G.'s family in June 2016 as the Girls' Team Department Leader.  He has a beautiful little girl, Jynelle.

Roy Ulrich

Gym Stars Department Leader

     Coach Roy is our Girls' Recreational Department Leader and currently assists in running some of our other programs.  He has one of the biggest personalities at the gym believing he has a “smile that lights up the sky.”  Coach Roy is a former New Orleans wrestler turned loveable gymnastics coach.  He graduated from Louisiana State University in 2017.

      He began coaching in 2009 and currently coaches preschool classes, boys’ recreational gymnastics, girls’ recreational gymnastics, tumbling, Pre-Team and Boys' Team.   He is also regularly seen working to improve his own tumbling skills around the gym. 
     Coach Roy is also the creator of "RUF" which stands for Roy Ulrich Fitness.  He offers adult fitness classes several times a week at C.G.'s.

Gym Cats Department Leader in Training

  Coach Chelci is from Shreveport, Louisiana and has been a member of the C.G.'s family since 2013.  In addition to being the Preschool Department Leader in Training she coaches girls' recreational classes, boys' recreational classes, tumbling, and our Girls' Xcel Team.  Coach Chelci currently runs our Summer Camp program.

   When Coach Chelci is not in the gym she is attending Louisiana State University or spending time with her boyfriend, Jacob, and dog Jezi.

Girls' Team Assistant Department Leader

   Coach Kristen grew up in Niagara Falls, NY and competed in gymnastics until she was 15 years old.  She competed as a Level 9 for several years but an ankle injury caused her to transition to track and field.  She was the New York State Pentathlon champion in 1993 and was a five time All-American in track and field in college.  She was also the Springfield College Overall Female Athlete of the Year three times and continues to hold the indoor 400 meter record at Springfield College.

   Coach Kristen has a B.S. in Movement and Sports Studies from Springfield College, a M.S. in Athletic Administration from Springfield College, and is currently pursuing a PhD from Regent University in Organizational Leadership.  She has been coaching gymnastics since 1999 throughout the country including Alabama, North Carolina, and Delaware and even owned her own gym.  She has numerous gymnastics and safety certifications as well as extensive team coaching experience.  Her husband's promotion brought her family to Baton Rouge where they plan to stay permanently.

Office Assistant

    Jennifer was born in Derby, Connecticut and moved to Baton Rouge with her husband and two children in 2011.  After her daughter was on our competitive team for two years, she joined the CG's staff as an office assistant.

Office Assistant

   Rachel is one of our office assistants who has been a member of the C.G.'s family for many years as a team mom.  In addition to helping run the office and being one of the friendly faces you see every day, she's also an English teacher in Walker and was named Teacher of the Year! 

   Rachel and her husband, Danny, have three wonderful children - one boy and two girls.  Her girls are members of our Junior Olympic and Xcel competitive teams.

Kathryn Story

Team Coach

   Coach Kathryn is a former gymnast and gym owner.  She is the coach of our Level 1, 2, and 3 girls' competitive gymnasts as well as several recreational gymnastics classes.

   Kathryn is married to her wonderful husband, Bobby and is the mother of  three amazing children, Hope, Josh and Faith.

Sam Easley


  Coach Sam is from Walker and is the oldest of five children.  She started coming to C.G.'s when she was 5 years old.  She was also a cheerleader and is currently taking classes online as a junior at Arizona State University.  Coach Sam loves coffee and chocolate.

  Coach Sam joined the staff in 2016 and coaches our recreational classes as well as our Pre-Team, Level 1, and Level 2 competitive teams.  She and her husband, Drew, have a Siberian Husky named Chapter.  Her dream car is a minivan and she hopes to have at least 6 children.

  Coach Mo is one of our recreational coaches and is an assistant coach with our Xcel team.  He grew up in Egypt and has a BA in English Literature and a minor in Language Mechanics.  He and his wife, Kim, have three children.  When he's not coaching gymnastics he enjoys traveling, fishing, substitute teaching, and coaching soccer.
